Learning to Listen
December 11–13 | Begins Friday at 8:15 PM
Long before the Big Book was printed, the founders of AA were practicing something simple and radical: they got quiet, and they listened. This immersive weekend retreat, led by Joe B. and Kevin H., returns to that early practice — the Oxford Group tradition of Two-Way Prayer and Quiet Time that formed the spiritual backbone of the 11th Step.
Drawing on years of careful research into the origins of early AA spirituality, Joe and Kevin offer a working retreat that is as experiential as it is educational. This is not a lecture weekend. Participants will move through several periods of prayer and meditation, breakout conversations, group reflection, and hands-on training — all designed to help you not only understand Two-Way Prayer, but actually practice it.
At the heart of the weekend are the four movements of PALA — Pause, Ask, Listen, Act — a framework that makes the 11th Step tangible, repeatable, and alive. When practiced alongside the 10th Step, these tools can open a clearer channel to spiritual direction and a deeper sense of purpose in recovery.
The tone throughout is light, grounded, and welcoming. Joe and Kevin bring both rigor and playfulness to the material, inviting participants to approach their Higher Power with curiosity and openness. You'll leave with materials, practices, and a felt sense of what it means to be still — and to hear something back.
Come prepared to learn. Come more prepared to listen.
And....
Most importantly, leave the weekend a little closer to heaven.
