A Recovery Retreat and Vermont Historical Site

Nestled in the heart of East Dorset, Vermont, The Wilson House is a historic landmark dedicated to preserving the legacy of Bill W., co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous. This serene retreat offers a unique space for reflection, recovery, and connection, welcoming all who seek solace and inspiration.

The Resurrection of The Wilson House

A vision born from inspiration

In 1987, while asking for directions at the East Dorset post office, Ozzie Lepper noticed the former Mount Aeolus Inn, now in ruins, just down the street. Recalling an old photograph of the building as the birthplace of Bill Wilson, co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, Ozzie felt a sudden inspiration.

Fueled by a recent inheritance, he purchased the property and embarked on a mission to save and restore it as a living tribute to Bill W.

The restoration of a historic landmark

With the help of his wife, Bonnie, and countless volunteers who shared his vision, Ozzie transformed the dilapidated inn into what is now known as The Wilson House. In 1989, The Wilson House was officially registered as a historic landmark, honoring its significance not just to the local community but to the global recovery movement. The property now also includes the Griffith Library, Bill W.'s boyhood home, preserving a crucial piece of Alcoholics Anonymous history.

A gathering place for growth and connection

Located in the scenic southern Vermont, The Wilson House is more than just a historic site; it is a living testament to the principles of recovery. As a nonprofit organization, The Wilson House serves as a welcoming gathering place for people in recovery to learn, grow, and deepen their spiritual connections.
